Brian Vanderschaaf is a private Oboe Instructor, teaching the middle school and high school levels in Round Rock, New Braunfels and San Antonio. Dr. Vanderschaaf has performed as a soloist, orchestral and chamber musician in the USA and the Philippines, and has given master classes and recitals in venues ranging from grade school classrooms to the University of Santo Thomas in Manila.
In the 2013-2014 school year, Dr. Vanderschaaf’s students achieved first chair placement in the Texas All Region band and orchestra competition and outstanding soloist during solo and ensemble performance. His entire studio received division 1 rankings at the regional Texas State Solo-Ensemble Contest. In the 2014-2015 school year, Dr. Vanderschaaf’s students achieved first and second chair placement in the Texas All Region band and orchestra competition. The majority of his studio received division 1 rankings at the regional Texas State Solo-Ensemble Contest.
In 2005, Mr. Vanderschaaf won the Lillian Fuchs Chamber Competition at Manhattan School of Music, New York. Mr. Vanderschaaf also won first place in the Maia Quartet competition and the Midwest Double Reed Society Competition. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa School of Music, Master of Music degree in performance from Manhattan School of Music, and Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Texas Tech University.
